Training Diary Feb 2011 video showing some work with a young horse to build her confidence in the big, wide world, improving balance and transitions on the lunge and nearly there with Spanish Walk. Also with an older horse – exercises for soundness and suppleness, free lunging and some Phillipe Karl exercises.

A great video showing how clicker training can be used to train your horse how to shift his weight onto his hindquarters and really engage his core to lift the back. This is a great exercise – basically sit-ups for horses!

Clicker training a horse to use an inhaler. This great video is from one of my clients, who has done a superb piece of training, teaching her mare with respiratory problems how to use an inhaler. Well worth a look, if you can train this, you can train anything!

We used clicker training to teach Frankie some manners around people. He’s very coltish and has not had much handling. Sophie only got him recently, he’s already earning the nicknames Frankster the Prankster and Frankenstein due to his habits of escaping, eating and destroying pretty much everything! What a character!

Rescued mule and donkey playing in their field. Just great to watch, rearing, biting, chasing, just playing together. I met them and their owner, Maggie, when I was out working in Portugal recently.

Positive Reinforcement with an aggressive stallion. Using a reward of a nose or head rub with an aggressive stallion in Portugal, only handled by the confident riders on the yard and always lead with a schooling whip. By the end of these few short sessions I wanted to take him home, what a sweetie!

Liberty, tricks, fetch, dressage, collection, manners…what can you teach your horse with clicker training?

..

Excerpt from a Clicker Training Demo, showing the progression of shoulder-in in hand at walk, trot and into ridden. Toby is a 20 year old cob, clicker training improving his balance, suppleness and willingness. Note how lifted and free his back is throughout the movement, something I never thought I’d be able to achieve with him!

Saddling and mounting a young horse using clicker training. http://www.naturalhorsecompany.com India is 3yo and this shows the process I used to calmly, quietly and confidently introduce her to saddle and rider using positive reinforcement methods. This demonstration was only her fourth outing and she proves that clicker training creates a super horse who is able to stay calm and engaged in new situations.

A novel way to get up the hills while enjoying snowboarding in the Yorkshire dales! Using clicker training, I’ve taught my pony, Toby, many different skills and tricks so he’s ready to do any crazy thing I ask him

My horses playing together having a great time! Just being horses… From this happy, healthy behaviour I have developed a great relationship with super training results as I’ve maintained their curiosity and joy.
